“The quality of the Wolfgangsee has been completely restored again”, the delighted mayor Johannes Peinsteiner said today at the Wolfgangsee. To recap: last weekend several hundred litres of oil seeped into the Wolfgangsee as a result of a damaged overflow valve on a hotel oil tank. Thanks to the quick and exemplary deployment of the fire brigade, the oil was removed, preventing any damage to the environment. The district fire brigades not only managed to localise the oil slick using comprehensive oil barriers but also succeeded in limiting it and then binding and sucking it up. “We can assume that 99.5% of the leaked oil has been removed from the lake” said a very satisfied commanding officer Windhager. Vet Dr. Hofbauer also made his own contribution to limiting the damage. He nursed a swan back to health for three days after this had been badly damaged by the oil slick so that it could be released back to freedom on the Wolfgangsee. The managing director of the Wolfgangsee Tourismus Gesellschaft knows that “The quality of the lake water has not suffered through the accident” Together with the mayor Hannes Peinsteiner he demonstrated the quality of the drinking water with a ceremonial tasting of the lake water in front of the Weissen Roessl. On this occasion the swan was released into his territory on the spot. |
